  Foot
Athletes foot is a skin condition that produces itching, inflammation and irritation of the foot. It is a fungus based disease that thrives in warm moist environments which makes the foot in a shoe a perfect medium.

The two types of fungus that cause athlete's foot are called Trichophyton & ringworm. The feet or other areas of the body that stay moist & warm make an ideal environment where this fungus can thrive and infect the upper layers of the skin.

Athlete's foot usually looks red, irritated, peeling, and flaky dry skin areas on the soles of the feet. In more severe cases the peeling skin may spread all over the feet and even in between the toes. This condition usually causes intense itching and burning which will just get worse if left untreated.

Athlete's foot is very contagious and can be transmitted through direct contact with the fungus itself or coming into contact with objects or personal effects such as shoes, stockings, clothing. Also shower floors or pool surfaces will harbor the fungus unless treated with a antifungal agent.

Over-the-counter antifungal powders or creams can usually help control the fungal infection. The most popular contain miconazole, clotrimazole or tolnaftate and are used for at least two weeks until the itching and irritation disappears. Other topical treatments can be used which have tea tree and other essential oils that have natural antifungal properties.

If you have a choice use an all natural topical cream or balm that attacks the fungus associated with athletes foot and remember to protect your feet from conditions that cause it.
